With all the crazy, unpredictable events of 2020, families were put in a difficult position trying to choose the best schooling situation for their family. With a preschooler, two elementary, and one middle school aged boy, we were right there trying to choose the best option for our family. Our local public school that the boys attended was great and we had no complaints. But, the idea of the virtual lessons, the amount of time on the computer, the mask wearing, and being distanced from their classmates made our choice to withdraw our boys to homeschool them a fairly easy decision.

Growing up, I was homeschool from grade 4-12th grade. Making the choice to homeschool the boys, easy enough as it was, left me with so many questions. I knew how homeschooling had worked when I was growing up. But that was so many years ago. The curriculums have changed. There are so many choices to choose from! I was an only child, so I observed how my mom had taught me. But now I was responsible for 4 educations!

Once the decision to homeschool was decided, I immediately started researching and preparing our house for the change over. If you have spent anytime researching homeschooling, you know there are so many resources out there. My favorite research was reading and learning from other moms in the same situation as I was in. I watched countless Youtube videos reviewing the curriculum I was considering.

The part of homeschooling that I felt the most comfortable with was our daily routine. I am a fairly routine person, so I didn’t think the daily part of homeschooling would be a challenge, but I was so wrong! I should’ve spent more time reading articles regarding the daily routines of multiple children homeschool families.

This leads me to the Homeschool Life Magazine. This magazine has a little bit of everything in each issue. It is written by current, christian homeschool moms and published quarterly. Topics can include curriculum to homeschool basics to record keeping to character qualities. One of my favorite parts is that it is digital! I know for our family, we need less stuff sitting around! Also, since it is digital, it is able to stay affordable!

We were chosen to write an article covering the topic of: Raising Children in Christ-like Character: Kindness. When I sat down to write this article, it really made me think of the actual specifics we go through teaching our boys to be kind to each other and others. It made me realize that even though we do teach it, I need to be a little more intentional about it and other character qualities that we might not focus on quite as much!

Take a look below at the magazine cover… That is our school area! On the cover!!! When the editor asked if our photo could be used as the cover photo, we were thrilled! My husband designed and built this table for us to sit around and learn together!
