Boys bedroom update reveal!

Since our two biggest boys, Aiden and Anson, share a bedroom, we need as much usable space as we can get.  We had the traditional twin over full bunk beds and dresser in their room.  We also had our hedgehogs cage in there.  It just felt very cramped.  I started scouring Pinterest for ideas of how we can make their room more usable.  That’s when I stumbled upon this design from The Project girl. It is a super cute, adventure type of design.  I knew we wanted to go with an adventure theme, it is just so adorable! And, we like to be outdoors and camping. Their room had been a super hero theme, but they seemed like they were maybe getting too old for it? I really wanted to decorate their room with a theme that could carry with them for awhile.  Andy looked at the bed design that I wanted and created his own version of it! I am in love with how it turned out!

I wasn’t sure how the headboards were going to turn out exactly, but Andy had this idea to build in a little bookshelf.  At first, I was maybe a little nervous that I wouldn’t like it since I wanted a solid headboard just like our inspiration.  But, now that I see the finished product, I am so happy that I trusted Andy and let him add his headboard shelf in there.  The boys love it for all their books and things they like to sleep with.

We always joke around our house that Andy is obsessed with lighting and with making our house “smart”. The big boys like to read for a few minutes before they go to sleep, so they always use a clip on book light.  Andy came up with this awesome idea that we could add some LED lights that can dim and be used as nightlights or be turned up brighter and they can use it for reading.  It may be hard to see in this picture, but we love how it turned out!

Choosing the bedding and decorating the walls was my favorite part! I couldn’t have done it without Hobby Lobby and Pinterest!  Most of the wall decorations came from Hobby Lobby. Of course I had to time my purchases with their weekly sales so that way we could keep within the redecorating budget. Putting together wall collages is something I really enjoy! It is neat to see how so many different elements can come together to create something more beautiful! It is kind of like a flower bouquet.  Each flower is so pretty and special on it’s own, but mix it together with all the other unique flowers and it becomes more of a masterpiece than anything!  Interesting note about this red dresser.  I actually got the dresser for free!  It was a wood color with very dated, broken handles.  I completely redid this dresser.  I sanded it smooth.  Then, I painted it with a red chalk paint and used the antique wax on it!

The boys also needed some simple storage for the books, trophies, and piggy banks that came off 3 shelves that we removed.  We found this very affordable bookshelf from Target that fits perfectly in this spot.  Maybe someday when Andy has more time, he will build us a book shelf that fits perfectly in this spot.  Until then, this bookshelf works perfectly for us!

I am so pleased with how this turned out!  If you have any ideas of ways we could’ve made it better, please comment below!  The little boys room is next on our project list!  Stay tuned to see how that room turns out.  We will be making similar beds and a built in desk for Aaron, who is our artist!
