When we were offered the chance to review these two books, we were all very excited! Both books are very similar in that they look like books, but inside both have pieces that need to be popped out to complete the creation. If your kids are anything like mine, they love to build and have the chance to be creative. These books are perfect gift ideas for those that don’t want anymore toys.

Initial impressions of this book is that it is high quality! The colors are very vibrant. The pages are sturdy. Each piece is pretty easy to pop out of the page. But, be warned, this Architek book comes with a TON (95 to be exact) of pieces! Once you pop them out of the book, you’ll need a place to keep them. My 8 year old was the most interested in building with these pieces. Building with these pieces can be a little tricky since some of the pieces are the same shape, but have slots in different places. So if you are just free building, it should be easy enough to figure out. The tricky part comes when you try to follow the plans to build any of the really cool models. There are 20 full color models included in this book with instructions to complete each.

Architek was created and designed by Dominique Ehrhard. The goal of this book is to increase dexterity, visual spatialization, and reasoning abilities in kids. It is a perfect book for any budding architects out there! Check it out here!

While my boys really liked popping out the pieces and playing with Architek, two of them were much more excited to check out Super Robot! It is the same idea as Architek where you pop out the pieces, but so different. The pages are thinner in Super Robot, but still very strong. The reason for this though is that pieces need to be folded to create the body parts of this super robot! Super Robot was created by Arnaud Roi.

My 5 year old was very interested in attempting to build this robot, but he wasn’t quite old enough to complete it without a significant amount of help from me. My 10 year old was able to assemble it completely on his own. The instructions are very easy to follow and it works through the book from front to back. Just a recommendation after our experience, make sure your glue is permanent and very sticky! We tried some blue tape we had, but it was older and didn’t hold the robot together very well. It kept falling apart and needing to be re-glued. Once we used a better glue, it held together perfectly!

It took my oldest son a few days to fully assemble Super Robot. This robot was pretty neat all assembled. It could stand up on its own. Fully assembled, this robot was 2 feet tall!

We would definitely recommend Super Robot as a gift idea, but for older kids. I’m not sure my 8 year old could’ve worked on this alone, but he also wasn’t the most interested to build this of my boys. Check it out here for more information!
